R.Y.G. Blog

Our theme for Spark this year is: Christlike.  We are going to look at stories from the life of Jesus each at each meting and think about the example he sets for us as we seek to live for him each and every day.

We started off with a fun--and literal--ice breaker.  It was a great activity given the 90 degree weather we have been having this September!

Pastor Rich intros the literal ice breakers.  Students were in a circle and had 5 seconds each to break the ice block to try to recover a Spark shirt that was frozen inside.  The first one to put the shirt on was the winner!

Above: Hayley breaks the ice.

Above: Melvin takes his turn.  We went around the circle once so all the kids got a chance to put the shirt on, but as you can see below, Melvin was the eventual winner!

After our ice breaker, we went into our lesson time.  Pastor Rich introduced out theme for the year which is: Christlike.

We looked at Ephesians 5:1-2 which says, "Follow Gods example, therefore, as dearly love children, and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."

During our small group time, students were challenged to think of people they look up to as role models and then to name qualities that they see in those people that they want to copy.  We also came up with good qualities to imitate in Jesus, who is the ultimate role model.  Our group mentioned qualitied like: sacrifice, honesty, understanding and kindness. Students were challenged to think of one way that they could be an imitator of Jesus at school the next day.  Students shared ideas like talking to kids they don't know to well, sitting by lonely kids in the lunchroom and not taking revenge when someone hurts you.

Our next meeting is October 4 right here at church!  We are going to talk about who Jesus is and how we can live for him.
